Impact Windows

Impact-rated windows, and the paperwork that proves it.

"Impact-rated" isn't a marketing adjective — it's a specific testing standard tied to a specific product approval number. We'll show you what that documentation looks like before we install anything.

What the term means

What makes a window "impact-rated"

An impact-rated window has been through large-missile impact testing and thousands of cycles of positive and negative pressure meant to simulate a storm — the standards most commonly referenced are ASTM E1886 (structural performance under cyclic wind pressure) and ASTM E1996 (impact resistance of the specific glazing and frame assembly). Passing that testing is what earns a product its Florida Product Approval number, or a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) for products rated to the stricter High-Velocity Hurricane Zone standard.

That number is the part that actually matters to you as a homeowner. It ties the exact glass thickness, interlayer, frame material, and anchoring method that was tested in a lab to what gets installed in your rough opening. A window that "looks" impact-rated but isn't installed per its tested anchoring schedule isn't actually providing the protection it was tested for — which is why we document the approval number and installation method on every project, not just the brand name on the box.

Documentation you should get

What we hand you

The Florida Product Approval or NOA number for your specific glass and frame package, the manufacturer's tested installation instructions, your permit record, and your final inspection sign-off — a packet you can hand directly to your insurance company or a future buyer.

The process

What installation looks like

1. Assess address & code status

We check your specific address against current wind-zone maps before recommending anything — see hurricane protection for the full breakdown.

2. Select frame & glass

We match frame material and glass package to your openings, budget, and aesthetic — with the Florida Product Approval number confirmed up front.

3. Permit

We file the permit with your local jurisdiction using the correct approval documentation for the exact product being installed.

4. Install

Old units come out, openings are checked and prepped, new units are set and fastened per the manufacturer's tested installation schedule.

5. Final inspection & documentation

Your jurisdiction signs off, and we hand you the full paperwork packet for your records and your insurer.

FAQ

Impact windows — common questions

Cost depends on opening size, frame material, glass package, and how many windows you're replacing. We give you a written, itemized quote at the free assessment rather than a generic per-window number, since real project ranges vary widely.

It depends on whether your address sits inside the Wind-Borne Debris Region or the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Most inland Orlando/Orange County addresses fall outside both today. Read the full explanation on our hurricane protection page, or ask us to check your address directly.

Timelines depend on order size, manufacturer lead time, and permitting turnaround at your jurisdiction. [confirm current typical lead time and install-day duration ranges before publishing specific numbers] You'll get a written schedule at the assessment.

Warranty terms vary by manufacturer and typically cover glass, frame, hardware, and labor separately, for different lengths of time. We provide the specific written warranty documents for your chosen product before you sign anything.

Financing is available in many cases, with terms that vary by lender and credit profile. See our financing page for the general options.
